Cars in Germany's Town Discovered Marked with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police mentioned they were contacted by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Vehicles, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a release.

Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.

The substance had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they stated.

Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the incident," they stated.

City officials stated they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for information.

A high-ranking official commented the incident left him stunned and required to be addressed rapidly.

"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the killing of nine victims by a assailant targeting individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
